Russell Frampton is a painter based in the West Country. His work reflects his passionate interest in landscape. Using dynamic line and colour, he produces paintings that synthesise the many elements of a place. His work is energetic, yet retains detail and clarity, using layering techniques to build up a level of complexity of surface. Drawing from the vigorous environment of the coast and moorlands of Devon and Cornwall, Russell's paintings represent a highly personal and refined vision. The proceses of absorbtion, observation and the physical act of painting allied to critical reflection, allows the development of the symbolic forms and styalistic elements that provide a visual vocabulary for the works. Russell works from his studio in Mid Devon and from a workspace in North Finisterre in Brittany, his landscape derived paintings combine elements of the physical characteristics of both these areas with a process rooted in studio led improvisation and experimentation.
